Berries protect against heart attack
In the new study, researchers from the American Cancer Society found that eating berries can be a reliable method of protection against heart attacks. After reviewing nearly 100,000 men and women, experts found that people who regularly consume berries were significantly less likely to die from cardiovascular disease. The experts also examined the other countries where heart disease was extremely rare. So, in Guizhou Province in China, where there are about half a million people, or one death in three years it was not associated with coronary heart disease among men younger than 65 years. Similar results were obtained in Uganda (Africa), from where 632 elderly people only 1 person has suffered from a heart attack.
Experts have concluded that the lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease is associated not only with the Chinese and African genes, but also depends on the food. In particular, the risk of heart disease increases significantly if people adhere to the Western diet, rich in cholesterol. In order to reduce the level of "bad" cholesterol, experts advise to give up processed foods rich in trans fats, reduce the consumption of animal products and increase the number of berries in the diet. Rich in antioxidants berries effectively protect vessels from the accumulation of cholesterol and help keep the heart healthy.
