But around the mid 80-ies began to appear, new research reveals more and more new and totally unexpected properties of curcumin.

It turned out that it has not only bacterial, but also anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anesthetic properties. More importantly - curcumin is able to activate the body's defense mechanisms of cells, making them resistant to stress. Studies have also shown that it causes the death of cancer cells. Although curcumin does not cure the cancer, its properties are actively exploring in order to use as an important aid, which can be used in combination with other drugs for the treatment of cancer.

Moreover, curcumin works as geroprotector, preventing the aging process. One of the main causes of aging is the appearance of DNA mutations in the cells. Such cells are no longer able to perform their normal functions, and the number of mutations in them only continues to grow. This in turn leads to a deterioration of the internal organs, consisting of cells. Curcumin, once in the cell with more mutations, causing their death, and slows down the aging process. Over time, the place occupied by the mutated cells healthy.
 
With the formation of an understanding of what a curcumin, scientists have begun to actively develop a variety of products based on it. But a kind of stumbling block remained low bioavailability of curcumin molecules.
