High pressure? Drinking cherry juice!
Scientists from the University of Northumbria (UK) found that the concentrated juice of Montmorency sour cherry varieties capable of controlling hypertension is not worse than drugs. 60 ml of drinking cherry concentrate, diluted with water, the pressure can be reduced by 7%, and the result is saved for 3 hours.
British study appeared small, but convincing 15 volunteers with symptoms of hypertension received either 60 ml of cherry concentrate diluted with 100 ml of water, or the same amount of placebo drink with fruit flavor. It turned out that cherry concentrate reduces high blood pressure by 7%, which is not found in the test group.
Scientists believe that the cherry juice so much effect on blood pressure due to the large amount of phenolic acids, - antioxidants, the most efficient of which are vanillic acid and protocatechuic.
High blood pressure - the leading cause of death from cardiovascular disease, but even a slight decline may it have a positive impact on health and life expectancy.
The level of decrease in blood pressure, as recorded in the experiment was comparable to that achieved by a single receiving antihypertensive drug. This underlines the potential of the cherry concentrate for effective prevention of cardiovascular disease and myocardial infarction.
