Playing the flute reduces the risk of sleep apnea

Scientists have conducted a test of lung function in 64 people who played wind instruments, and compared the results with a control group of 65 people who did not play on them. All participants also underwent a test to detect the risk of sleep apnea. In analyzing the results, researchers found that the group, which plays a wind instrument, had a lower risk of developing sleep apnea. Nevertheless, no difference in lung function was detected between the two groups.

Thus, the wind instruments play can be a cheap and non-invasive method of prophylaxis of sleep apnea in people at risk of developing the disease. "Our findings represent an interesting theory about the preventive measures and treatment of sleep apnea," - said one of the study's authors Silas Daniel Raj.
