"Second Skin" hide wrinkles and treat eczema

On the elasticity and health of the skin affects a huge number of factors, ranging from the sun's rays, cuts and scratches, and ending with the general state of the organism and the inevitable influence of time. Young skin usually has good elasticity and quickly recovers from damage. This is partly due to the mesh of protein fibers that act as a "safety belt", helping it to regain shape. These "threads" break down with age, and the skin becomes flabby and covered with wrinkles.

The goal of scientists from Boston University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge was the consciousness of the product, which would restore youthful elasticity of the skin, being transparent and flexible. They created the first "artificial skin" of the polymer activated by a special gel. This tool (Living Proof) came on the market and was used to reduce the bags under the eyes, but cost is too expensive ($ 500 for a week's supply of the product), and exfoliating for 5 hours.

Scientists have returned to the laboratory, some modified components and hundreds of different compounds tested, the substance had not yet developed, allowing to control the thickness, flexibility, strength and breathability "second skin," making it suitable for cosmetic and medical purposes.

New means are applied in two stages. First siloxane gel is rubbed into the skin. A second gel containing a platinum catalyst is applied on top, whereby the substance "stitched" to form a continuous film. As the drying of the film is compressed by 10%, maintaining the skin in a position to tighten. According to the journal Nature Materials, the film reduces the bags under the eyes by 40% and reduces moisture loss by 23%. The rejuvenating effect lasts up to 24 hours.

The product still does not test for patients with eczema and psoriasis, but the creators say its great potential:

- People with eczema and other dermatological diseases often wraps the skin with bandages or transparencies that their drugs are not erased. Invisible "second skin" to help them to avoid the use of uncomfortable things - says Suzanne Kilmer, a dermatologist at the University of California.
