A man may suspect thyrotoxicosis in case of sudden weight loss, the appearance of tachycardia, hyperhidrosis, irritability, hot flashes, and shake in different parts of the body, frequent and irregular stool, disorders of concentration and storage of information, while reducing the sex drive in males and menstrual dysfunction in females. It may also occur exophthalmos - excessive protrusion of the eye as a result of edema okoloorbitalnyh tissues. The symptoms of thyrotoxicosis are usually joined by manifestations of the underlying disease that caused the syndrome.

The diagnostic program in thyrotoxicosis includes determining the level of thyroid hormones in the blood, their ratio, an ultrasound, scintigraphy of the thyroid gland with radioactive iodine, aspiration biopsy, magnetic resonance and computed tomography of the brain to identify pituitary pathology.

Treatment will depend on the cause of thyrotoxicosis and on its severity. It may be medication, and consist in applying thyreostatics medicaments. Also being treated with radioactive iodine, which leads to the destruction of thyroid cells. Surgical treatment is applied in the absence of effectiveness of the previous types of therapy and in case of a significant increase in thyroid.
