Electrical appliances cause asthma in children
They warn that exposure of unborn children to potentially harmful magnetic energy produced by household appliances and power lines can triple a child's chances to get this disease.
Experts believe that their finding may partly explain why asthma among children were so widespread in the last few decades.
Scientists from the California surveyed 800 mothers and assessed the levels of magnetic energy - known as the electromagnetic field - which they were subjected.
After the birth of their children were followed for the next 13 years, to find out at how many children developed asthma.
The findings, published in the journal Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent, show that adolescents whose mothers were exposed to high levels of magnetic energy during pregnancy are three times more likely to develop asthma.
Thus for the first time, scientists have shown that the use of hair dryers, microwave ovens, and even living near power lines during pregnancy may affect the incidence of asthma future children.
